IT SysOps Administrator Seeking a talented and motivated individual with administration experience of Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, and Amazon Web Services. We host a variety of applications offering a challenging work environment and opportunity to work with new technologies. This position requires a high level of expertise and broad experience in system administration and hosting services. In addition to supporting hosting services, you will act as a technical lead for projects, tasks, incidents and system architecture design. You will work under the direction of management to become a key player on a DevOps team. While this will begin as a primarily Linux server administration position, you are expected to be familiar with Windows systems, virtualization (VMWare), configuration management products (Salt), cloud hosting services (AWS), and DevOps practices. You will work closely with application architects, developers and business analysts to understand business workflows, identify application requirements, build and automate application IT infrastructure, and assist with automated application deployment and troubleshooting. Automating routine application testing and deployment tasks are an ongoing responsibility of this position, accomplished via strategy-building techniques. You would also help create requirements, procedures, and automation scripts for performing routine maintenance. A key skill for this position is troubleshooting existing information systems for errors and resolving those errors.

While this position requires residence in the state of Utah, you must be able to work remotely and be a self starter. There will be times when you will be required to work extended hours and weekends to support the needs of State of Utah agencies, including an on-call rotation. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Provision resources in cloud environments

● Maintain the overall health of the IT infrastructure

● Provide system and environment support

● Manage system reliability, including monitoring and alerting

● Work with developers to understand the workflow, identify resources, gather requirements, create and use Terraform scripts to provision the resources, and create automated CI/CD pipelines.

● Work closely with cloud architects to implement best practices

● Assist developers in troubleshooting applications, migrations, conversions, and deployments

● Adhere to all State of Utah security definitions

● Automate common administrative tasks

● Collect, normalize, and evaluate logs

● Follow specific procedures and document knowledge transfer

● Manage projects and workflows using tools such as ServiceNow, Jira and GitHub

● Ensure consistent and accurate billing configurations

● Enforce security governance and best practices in security guardrails

● Provide on-call assistance as requested

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

● 5+ years of Linux and Windows system administration experience required with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and efficiently under pressure in a production environment

● Preference will be given to candidates who are proficient with Amazon Web Services

● Familiarity with Linux including:

○ Experience with Apache, Tomcat, and Wildfly installation and configurations

○ File System management (LVM, quotas, etc.) including NFS

○ Knowledge of Linux kernel configuration ● Experience with multiple Windows Server versions

● Knowledge of common Windows technologies (AD, IIS, MSSQL, NTFS ACLs, etc.)

● Knowledge of key management systems ● Understand various application development workflows and methodologies

● Knowledge of APIs

● Basic experience with the configuration and management of database technologies

● Knowledge of networking, firewalls, and load balancing technologies

● Scripting knowledge to build and maintain infrastructure as code (ex: Terraform, BASH, Cloud Formation, Python)

● Knowledge of project management practices

● Excellent project planning skills, highly organized, and the ability to complete high level projects with little supervision on time and under budget
